Arcadia Summary by John Dye

Lashinda  Demus & Rickey Harris take outstanding athlete awards at 33rd Arcadia Invitational at Citrus College, Glendora CA.  Demus won her specialty 300m hurdles in 40.97 and pulled her Long Beach Wilson 4x400 relay team to a sensational come from behind victory in 3:44.23.  Harris, Centreville VA senior, won the 110 hurdles in 13.51 and the 400 in 47.04.  Neither was happy.  Demus wants the US record (40.44) and Harris wants to go below 13.30.

There were plenty more stars on a picture perfect California evening that was cool to southerners and warm to northerners.  San Lorenzo Valley CA girls, on their own record quest in the distance medley, lowered their US#1 mark for this season to 11:55.68.   It was the second 1600 meters of the night for anchor Alejandra Barrientos, who won the individual event earlier in 4:46.60.  Long Beach Poly sr Bennie Robinson had a sprint double in 10.41 and 21.64.  Poly girls star Blessing Ufodiama took the US lead with a 41-1.75 triple jump.  The Gardena Serra CA boys relay squad, led by Warren Rogers, doubled in 41.14 and 3:13.99.  The Berkeley CA girls took home three golds: 4x100 (46.58), 200 meters (Aisha Margain 23.85), and seeded 100 meters (Katrina Keith 11.96).  Woodland sr  Jill Camarena doubled in the throws with 49-11.5 SP and 160-6 DT.  Santa Barbara sr Erica Menzel, competing in the supposedly lesser Open division in the afternoon program, had the best girls high jump of the meet at 5-9.
