Annually one of the top high school meets in the country, this year's meet was no exception with six new meet records set as well 25 performances ranking in the top ten in the country based on nationally recognized DYESTAT rankings with 82 more performances qualifying for national ranking status.

Kandace Stone of Cleveland Collinwood had a triple win day with wins in the 60(7.73, #2 nationally), 200 meters(#7 nationally) and 60 meter hurdles(8.76, #1 nationally in prelims, 8.93 finals). Deandre' Eiland of Tupelo, Mississippi, led a blazing field in the 60 meter hurdles with five competitors posting times ranked in the top nine in the country. His 7.74 lowered his national best to nearly .3 second below his nearest competitor.

Oldham Country sprinter Ben Kittleson(6.88) edged defending state champion Tyson Gay(6.89) of Lafayette in the 60 meter dash and post the #3 and #4 times in the country preventing Gay from being a tripe winner. Gay got revenge in the 200 meters setting a meet record in 21.82(#5 nationally). Gay also ran leadoff leg on the victorious 4x400 meter relay which include state champions from Indiana and Ohio.

AAA state cross country champion David Altmaier unleashed a ferocious kick over the last 300 meters to best an outstanding field of two milers. Altmaier's time ranks him #4 in the nation while his competitors posted the #5, 6,8, and 10 nationally ranked times.

Three Fort Wayne pole vaulters broke the meet record with Jeff Martzall clearing 15'6" to win. Defending AA state champion Eric Cockley of Western Hills was fourth at 14'.

Other top Kentucky winners included Kelley Bowman of Berea in the girls high jump, Byron Lewis of North Hardin in the triple jump, Jordan Wagenseller of Ballard in the girls 800, Alli Sauer of South Oldham in the girls mile and inaugural meet records for Jacey Hughes of Daviess County in the girls pole vault (9') and Rosalind Goodwin of Ballard in the girls' triple jump(35'7")

Bill McCurdy of Neuces Canyon, Texas had his incoming flight delayed in Atlanta, missing his main event the 60 meter hurdles. Getting in to the long jump late, he scratched three times before popping 22' to win on his last jump by one inch over Justin McCorkle of Harding University High, North Carolina. Other meet records set were 6'8" in the high jump by Bobby Long of Wayne, Ohio(#8 in the nation) and Carmel, Indiana's 8:12.56 in the 4x800 meter relay.
