Big news: Norristown jr Ernie Terrell won the 60 meters in 6.7h (US#5 after adjusting for FAT); Penn Wood sophomore sensation Danielle Rodgers set a PR in the open 800 with a 2:17.4 (new US #6).

Boys Highlights - Ernie Terrell is "ready to deal! "

Philadelphia area boys traveled to Lehigh University Friday (Division I) and Saturday (Division II), and came away with some good efforts... along with one incredible 60 meter dash.

Norristown Junior Ernie Terrell (6.7 hand-timed), went toe-to-toe with William Tennent Junior Troy Roberson (6.8), taking an electrifying final. Tyrone Diggs of Glen Mills was third in 6.9. Norristown Coach Ernie Hadrick, Jr. tells DyeStat that when Terrell came out as a freshman, "we knew we had something special, but we wanted to bring him along slowly. He ran a 21.7 200 split as a sophomore, but you could tell he was tentative. He's such a nice kid, and in his 22.38 (YES Meet, 12/28) and races since then, he's showing an aggressiveness we haven't seen before. He's ready to 'deal!".

Coach Hadrick is seriously considering taking Terrell and other top performers to the Nike Indoor Classic. The team may also compete at Eastern States.

In the 60 Meter Hurdles, the top three performances were NIC qualifiers, with all three timed in 8.5, including in firsts, Travis Berry, Simon Gratz, Dan Hawthorne of Haverford High, and Kurt West of Central.

In Division I, held Friday night at Lehigh University, Terrence Day of Simon Gratz lept 22-10 , an NSI qualifying long jump. Central Jerren Ryans jumped 22-5 to finish second, and garner a Nike Indoor Classic spot. In the 800, national standout Pat Nash of Cardinal O'Hara (1:58.4), was nipped at the line by Dan Michael of North Penn, who finished with a1:58.3.
In the mile, Council Rocks Joe Weigner, Council Rock (4:27.2), and Cardinal O'Hara's Sean Duffy (4:33.9), both ran NIC qualifiers. Central Buck East's Karl Dusen lowered his PA leading 3000 time to 9:00.6, helped by a close race with Rich Anderson of Cardinal O'Hara, both NIC performances.

Father Judge (Mark Cichonski, Pat Bickel, Tom Taggart, Kevin Carroll) won the 4 x 800 in 8:16. DyeStat Elite performances were turned in by Steve Cousin of Harry S. Truman, with a 44-4 Triple Jump... and Haverford High's Mike Lang, with a 6-5 High Jump.

Joe Jones of Strath Haven, 7.1, Marquis Weeks, Conestoga, 7.1, and Galli, Phoenixville, with a 7.1 in the trials. Ford-Bey, Garnet Valley triple-jumped 45 1 to qualify for the Nike Indoor Classic.

Girls Highlights

Some spectacular performances as the Philadelphia area girls traveled to
Kutztown University Friday evening, January 28 for a few laps, throws
and jumps between snow storms. With outside training days at a premium,
and comfortable weather a distant memory, the girls showed just how
important their base training can be, as eleven of sixteen events
boasted DyeStat Elite or better performances.

The highlights of the meet were in the 800 meters, 600 yards, 4 x 800, 4
x 400 meter relays, and Shot Put. Penn Wood sophomore sensation Danielle
Rodgers set a PR in the open 800 with a 2:17.4 (new US #6). First year
varsity coach Carla Williams said Rodgers could only consider the Nike
Indoor Classic because of the Pennsylvania ban on underclassmen
participating in national championships. Rodgers was followed by two
Dyestat Elite performances from Conestoga's Katie Turner (2:20.2) and
Maureen McCandless of Nazareth Academy (2:22.5).

Conestoga's Ann Hansgate powered here way to a fast 1:27.9 600 yards NSI
qualifier in either the 400 or 800 meters. The Pennsbury quartet of
Elise Gould, Casey Carey, Jessica Miller and Rebecca Powell qualified
for the national meet of their choice with a 9:41.2 (new US #9) in the 4
x 800. Upper Darby challenged most of the way, finishing with an NIC
qualifier of 9:52.6. Upper Darby will be taking its 4 x 800, 4x400
(which qualified with a 4:11.1 at last week's Princeton Relays), and
shot put athlete Katie Link, a sophomore, to the Nike Indoor Classic.
Also in the 4 x 800, Villa Marie ran a Dyestat Elite time of 9:57.9.

William Penn (PA) continued to impress, as Madonna Patterson, Tyesha
Thomas, Gorgeous Harper (who also doubled with a 2:23.3 800), and
Tiffany Poole, unleased an NSI qualifying 4 x 400 of 4:04.0.

performance of 1:49.9.

The mile boasted six Dyestat Elite races, including winner Jessie Oakes
of Padua Academy with a 5:28.22, Lindsay Scottoline of Archibishop
Prendergast with a 5:29.2, Downingtown's Jessie Yester, 5:29.6, Penn
Wood's Kyra Lewis, 5:29.8, Erin Vaccaso of Neshaminy, 5:30.5, and
