Adam Staier breaks national 1600m record

Adam Staier (Mt Blue HS, ME) broke the 1600m Race Walk HS National
Record on 5/25 in his
Sectional Championships. His time of 6:04.59 for 1600m breaks the
6:08.0 time of Tom
Krasnof (Sachem HS, NY) set in 1987. This performance also converts
out to a 6:06.7 Mile,
which makes it better than that of the 6:11.05 set by Ben Shorey
(Ellsworth HS, ME) in
2001. Adam is looking to become the first HS Race Walker to break
the magic 6:00 barrier
next weekend at the Maine State Championships (or possibly at the
AOC).
Adam is looking at making the Junior World Championships in the
10000m RW this summer. He
(along with Lauren Olivieri of Hauppauge HS, NY) will be attending
Mansfield University
(PA) to continue his development as one America's top RW prospects
under the tutelage of
Head Coach & former US Team member Mike Rohl and his wife Michelle
(a 3-time Olympian).
