The Scene--The Roosevelt Memorial Invitational takes place
in Welcome Stadium, a stone's throw form the Great Miami River in
downtown Dayton.
Welcome Stadium is a multi sports complex names after Perc B. Welcome,
Director of Athletics and physical education in the Dayton Public
Schools from 1946 to 1958. The Stadium seats 12,000 and is owned
by the Dayton Public School System. It serves as the home field
to five public high schools for varsity football games and track
meets. It is also hosts other sports events including University
of Dayton football, the annual Ohio High School State Track Meet
and soccer matches.
Dayton, named in honor of General Jonathan Dayton, is an old community
that dates back to 1795. It boasts being home to Wilbur and Orville
Wright and original site of their first laboratory.
The Meet--110 teams with 4,000 athletes participated from
Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee..
