California state championship qualifications take
place in 10 sections broken down by geography. Each section has
an allotment of 1 to 5 slots per event of the 27 slots in the finals.
These 27 are narrowed to 9 per event in the first day preliminaries
in all events except the 3200.
The championship alternates between Southern California
and Northern California. This year it was SoCal's turn, with the
competitions being held at Cerritos College, a community college
serving southeastern Los Angeles County since 1955.

Jumps Away
|
Cole Herron JR, Sanger - Cole won the
high jump with a jump of 6'11. He is a Junior with a best
jump of 7'0. Here, Cole's Dad, Tony gives congratulations. |
Denny Casupanan SR Tustin-Denny placed
2nd in the long jump 23'08.25. He was a little disappointed.
Based on his 24'08.25 jump in the preliminaries, he thought
he could take 1st place. Well that's the way it goes. Now,
he looks forward to Cal Poly Pomona come the Fall. |

|
Chaunte Howard SR, JW North. Chaunte
was 2nd in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. She was
so busy that she took her high jump 2nd and 3rd jumps together
so she could run to the long jump. Next year, Chaunte will
