Subramaniam romped over the 2.95mile course in Belmont in 16:21.5 to finish second for the Falcons in the boys varsity division, and Follmar ran 18:04.1 to take second in the girls varsity race.
But it was Los Gatos packing five runners in the top 20 in the girls division to finish second to Milpitas in the tune-up for the upcoming SCVAL finals.
Local runners finishing in the top 10 Lynbrook's Aya Wakabayashi, a senior eighth in 20:16.8, and MayC Huang, a freshman ninth in 20:22.2.
Los Gatos finished third behind Santa Clara and Gunn in the boys varsity race. Saratoga was a close fourth.
Subramaniam's second-place finish sparked the Falcons to the team fourth. Steven Surrette was 12th in 17:29.9 with Scott Surrette 25th in 17:53.0, Henry Barmeier 28th in 17:55.1 and Ken Douglas 38th in 18:17.1. Eugene Berson of Lynbrook was 30th.
Fremont freshman Elijah Carillo finished first overall in 18:14 but it was Los Gatos winning the team title in the boys frosh-soph division.
Howard Liu of Lynbrook was 10th with Andrew Wu of Saratoga 15th.
Stephanie Girsback of Los Gatos was fourth in 22:18.3 to lead the Los Gatos girls to a team second in the girls junior varsity division.
Laura Hsieh of Lynbrook was ninth in 22:47.8 with Jessica Tsai of Lynbrook 16th, Jennifer Tam of Saratoga 17th and Soo Lee of Lynbrook 18th.
David Rabinowitz of Cupertino was first in 17:20.8 in the boys junior varsity race. Walter Chang of Lynbrook was 15th in 19:59.8 and Kevin Courtay of Saratoga 20th.
Palm a BVAL winner
In Blossom Valley Athletic League competition last week, Becky Palm of Prospect finished first overall in 18:58 in the West Valley Division girls varsity race, but the Panthers couldn't field a complete team for the race and lost to Lincoln. Jen Kocisko was eighth in 21:59 for the Panthers.
In the girls frosh-soph division at the Serra Invitational in Belmont, Prospect sophomore Kocisko was seventh in 21:57.
No match for Falcons
They play matches in volleyball, but the way things are working out for the Saratoga Falcons girls team this fall, they have no match in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
The Falcons breezed to two more victories last week, beating Cupertino and Santa Clara in quick three-game matches, to improve to 7-0 in the division and to 24-1 for the year.
Saratoga capped play last week with a 25-3, 25-19, 25-8 win over Cupertino.
Hannah Gladwell starred for the Falcons in the victory, leading the club with 14 digs and four service aces.
Bryte Nielson and Jordan Henry hammered home eight kills apiece to lead the Falcons in that category. Nina Sevastopoulos supported with six kills. Henry also had 10 digs and three aces, and Nielson had nine digs. Barbi Ly and Amanda Anthony added nine digs apiece.
Sarah Nguyen was the assist leader with 26 and she also drilled three service aces.
Saratoga had opened the week by making quick work of Santa Clara 25-16, 25-20, 25-15.
Nielson had a big night with 16 kills, 22 digs and four aces. Henry and Sevastopoulos added five kills each.
Lea Anthony supported with 14 digs and four aces and Nguyen had a team-high 25 assists. Henry led the club with three blocks.
A. Anthony added nine digs and Ly had eight.
The Falcons were to hit the road for two matches this week.
In other local volleyball action, Westmont outlasted Silver Creek 15-9, 25-13, 25-27, 27-25 to improve to 7-0 in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. The Warriors are 17-9 for the year.
Prospect lost twice in the division last week, falling 25-11, 25-18, 25-5 to Overfelt and 25-21, 15-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-4 to Andrew Hill. The Panthers slipped to 2-5 in league and 3-10 overall. Senior middle blocker Stacy Avila led the team in kills against the Royals and senior Caroline Slagle was the kills leader against the Falcons.
York, Bragonier star
Kellie York and Aimee Bragonier each had a goal and an assist last week to lead the Saratoga field hockey team to back-to-back wins over Willow Glen and Live Oak in the BVAL's Santa Teresa Division.
The Falcons improved to 7-0-1 in the division and to 10-2-1 for the year with the two victories.
Bragonier scored a goal off a York assist and York and Tiffany Kim each knocked in unassisted goals in a 3-2 win over Willow Glen.
Earlier in the week, Bragonier's assist helped Caroline Charles score a goal in the 3-1 win over Live Oak. Gwen Belomy also scored and Alex Block scored off a Lauren Belomy assist.
Prospect split a pair of decisions in the Mt. Hamilton Division last week, beating Los Altos 2-1 before losing 1-0 to Leigh.
Stacey Katz scored two goals off assists from Nicolette Vallorz and Lizzie Innes to lead the Panthers to the win over the Eagles.
Prospect is now 3-5-3 for the year and 2-4-2 in the division.
