ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Shannon Rowbury, S. Heart Cathedral

Sport: Cross-country.     Class: Senior.
Accomplishment: Rowbury defended her individual title by setting a course record in the Small Schools division at the Artichoke Invitational in Half Moon Bay to help Sacred Heart Cathedral win the team title for the third time in four years. Rowbury, the state 800-meter champ last spring, ran the 2 1/4-mile course in 13:27 after opening the week by turning in the fastest time in the first league meet of the season last Tuesday.

Comment: ``It was a nice race to win because this is the first place we've returned to that will be where she has run at in all four years,'' Sacred Heart Cathedral Coach Andy Chan said. ``This is where you can really measure what has happened in the last four years. She's gotten stronger each year.''

Zider, who did not play water polo until his sophomore year, scored 19 goals and had eight steals as Menlo went 4-0 at the tournament. He has scored 51 goals for the 17-1 Knights.
