Rimbach a champ at BVAL track finals

P> Kendra Rimbach only had to finish in the top eight at the Blossom Valley Athletic League track and field finals to qualify for the Central Coast Section semifinals. But the Prospect junior had more on her mind last Thursday than simply qualifying for CCS.

Rimbach soared win in the high jump at the BVAL meet to advance to the section meet as a league champion. Along with winning the high jump, she was third in both the triple jump and long jump.

She'll compete in all three events when the CCS semifinals get under way on May 20 at San Jos� City College, with field events beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the running events at 11 a.m. The top placers there move on to the CCS meet set for May 26 at San Jos� City.

Rimbach won the high jump with a 5-4 effort. She was also third in the triple jump at 36-7 and third in the long jump at 17-2.

Her younger sister, Kristen Rimbach, finished fourth in the triple jump at 35-1.25 and sixth in the high jump at 5-0 .

Prospect's Hannah Gilbert is another dual qualifier for the Panthers. She was third in the 800 in 2:25.20 and sixth in the 400 in 1:01.76. Leah Williams was fifth in the 100 in 13.15 and helped the Panthers to a third in the 4x100 relay in 51.46, and Jennifer Jasper was eighth in the shot put at 29-7.

Westmont speedster Christine Ristow will make the CCS trip in two events. She was second in the 300 hurdles in 47.80 and added a sixth in the 100 hurdles in 17.18. Westmont's Jessica Rozhin whirled the discus 88-3 to finish sixth and earn a CCS berth.

The Warriors also ran 51.91 to finish sixth in the 4x100 relay.

In boys competition at the BVAL meet, Kevin Blakley of Westmont also qualified for CCS in three events. Blakley was third in the high jump with a 6-2 leap, and he added a seventh in the triple jump at 42-2 and an eighth in the long jump at 19-7.5.

Westmont's Will Evans will join Blakley as a multiple qualifier at the semifinals. Evans was third in the discus with a heave of 127-5 and seventh in the shot 39-9.5.

Eric Ray of Westmont whirled the platter 120-10 for a seventh.

Two days later at the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League qualifying meet, Sameer Thadani of Lynbrook and Ken Douglas of Saratoga top the list of area qualifiers.

Thadani sprinted to a win in the 100 in 11.21 and he was third in the 200 in 22.92. He was also a member of the Lynbrook 4x100 relay team that ran second in 44.62.

Douglas was a solid second in the 1,600 in 4:30.37 and he came back to get fourth in the 400 in 2:00.50. Joining Douglas as a runner-up at the qualifier was his Saratoga teammate Ryan Tang, who finished second in the 110 high hurdles in 15.61. Saratoga's Michael Marshall was fourth in the 400 in 51.73 and Bradley Jacobs was fifth in the 3,200 in 9:53.71.

Lynbrook's Brian Cramer was second in the 400 in 51.44 and Matt Kemp was fifth in the shot put at 48-4.25.

Saratoga's Kierston Dolbec went over the high jump bar at 5-0 to finish third and the Sabes sisters finished four-five in the 400, Nicole at 59.27 and Rachel at 1:00.72.

Cynthia Siu of Lynbrook was third in the pole vault at 6-0 and MayC Huang qualified in two events, finishing fifth in the 800 in 2:22.02 and eighth in the 1,600 in 5:16.56.
