JUSTIN TA, SILVER CREEK

Sport: Track and field.

Event: Hurdles, 4x100 relay, long jump. Class: Senior.

Accomplishment: Ta completed his recovery from a partial hamstring tear by winning four events Thursday at the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division finals at Silver Creek. A state qualifier in both hurdle events last year, Ta won the 110-meter high hurdles (15.26 seconds) and the 300 intermediates (39.75). Earlier in the day, Ta ran with the Raiders' 4x100 relay team that took home top honors in 43.92. Ta finished the day with a surprise victory in the long jump. He hadn't competed in the event outside dual meets but posted a mark of 20 feet, 4 1/4 inches into the wind. Ta's 4x100 team holds the best time in the CCS at 43.22, and his top time of 14.65 in the high hurdles puts him second in the section. After suffering the hamstring injury in February, Ta was unsure if he could recover in time for this month's qualifying meets. ``He had to learn how to run with pain,'' Coach Hector Flores said. ``He's starting to feel good now at the right time.''
