Veronica Walker, Oak Grove

Sport: Track.

Event: Sprints. Class: Senior.

Accomplishment: Walker had the best qualifying times in the 100 meters (12.19) and the 200 meters (24.89) and also helped lead the Eagles' 400 relay team (including Reba Osborn, Robinette Sneed and Eileen Frampton) to the top time of the day (48.72) at the Central Coast Section semifinals at San Jose City College on Saturday. She is a favorite to qualify for her first state meet at Friday's CCS finals at SJCC.

Comment: ``Veronica has been working hard with her sprint coach, Chee Robinson, and has really come into her own this year,'' Oak Grove head coach Allen Wulczynski said. ``Last year, she didn't like running the 200 meters because she has asthma, but she has worked with Chee to overcome that and has confidence in herself in both events now. She has a great chance to do well this week. She is poised and focused on doing her best.''
