Preview by Jeff Hollobaugh: The annual prep distance running festival outside of Columbus promises some sizzling races. Eyes will be on the horizon, though, as the weather reports are still unclear on whether the meet will be blessed with rain or not. Still primarily an Ohio event, the meet will feature competitors from Illinois and Pennsylvania as well. Four of Michigan’s best distance programs--Dexter, Monroe, Pinckney and Saline—were barred from competing by their state association. With all the entries in, here’s how the races are shaping up: Boy DMR: Central Crossing and St Charles are the top seeds. Boys 3200: top seeds are Ohio indoor mile champ Jake Edwards of Hayes and Cory McGoldrick of Brunswick. Boys 800: Look for Ironton junior Marc Carter to be challenged by Corwin Swint of Massillon Perry and Heath Gibson of Lakota West in a deep race. Boys 1600: Top seed at 4:15.22 is Nike Indoor champ Samuel Borchers of Yellow Springs. He won’t have an easy time of it, with Brian Gallagher of St Ignatius in the field, along with Brunswick senior Daniel White and Clay Adams of Brentwood. Boys 4 x 800: Reynoldsburg is looking at challenging the 8:00 barrier. St Charles, Central Crossing, and Lakota West could be close. Girls DMR: Lakota West could be challenged by both Central Crossing and Hilliard Darby. Girls 3200: State D1 XC champ Amanda Burger of Lakota West is the top seed at 10:56. Erica Alpeter of Darby is seeded at 11:10; she was a D1 state finalist last year. Katherine Ward of Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, may contend; she was an All-American at the Nike Indoors. Girls 800: A pair of seniors from Dublin Coffman share the top seed at 2:20, Tiffany Evans and Kelley Miller. Frosh Jenna Weber of Troy has run a 2:23. Girls 1600: Sub-5:00 would seem to be a real possibility if the rains don’t come, as both Emily Pritt of Jackson and Amanda Burger of Lakota West are seeded at 5:02. Girls 4 x 800: Central Crossing (9:42) will have to hold off a pair of 9:50 teams, Dublin Coffman and Hilliard Darby.
