SteveU's DyeStat  Girls XC Top 25
2008 Individual XC Rankings
By Steve Underwood

The annual DyeStat XC Top 25 series (formerly Foot Locker Favorites and renamed given additional options available now) are national and regional rankings of cross-country runners based on distance-running accomplishments to date, with an emphasis on XC and 3200/2M track results, rather than a projection of how the Foot Locker Finals or NXN Finals will turn out (predictions run later in the season). Early season rankings have significant basis in top returnees from last fall and those who made significant progress as distance runners in track.  As the season progresses, this season's XC results weigh continually heavier.

October 31, 2008 (rank through meets of Oct. 25)

Mt. SAC provides big boost
California trio makes a statement, but biggest move is by CO state champ McLaughlin
  • Big day for Hasay, Dunne, Grabill - The individual sweeps race at Mt. SAC provided the most fodder for the new rankings.  While Jordan Hasay showed she is right in the mix with the SE stars Ashley Brasovan FL and Kathy Kroeger TN, it was Alex Dunne and Molly Grabill making big moves with their sub-17:00 clockings on the venerable course
  • McLaughlin crushes everyone in CO - Allie McLaughlin CO had been impressive all fall, but hadn't faced a lot of great competition.  But at her state meet, she made obvious to the country what her fans had known for months - she's the real deal.  Her 17:05 5K won the D5 race by more than a minute and was best of the day by 43 seconds.  Given that she was underrated before, she moves way, way up into the top five.
  • NJ showdowns loom - Since Melanie Thompson NJ "lost" out on the overall time battle to Chelsea Ley NJ in the Shore Invite (they were in different races), the Voorhees star and defending MOC titlist has been on a mission, winning the Eastern States race at Manhattan and setting two big course records since.
  • Moving on the radar - Megan Goethals MI doesn't get to race anyone out of state, but her results in Michigan are getting too good to ignore.  She has beaten defending state champ Shannon Osika and run a series of 17:00s, including a 17:10 at her region meet that beat three top state returnees.
