Regional Capsules:

Northeast Boys – 5/1: Southern Regional (NJ) remains on top but slips in the national rankings this past week from fourteen spot to the twenty-first spot. One new mark from Chase Petrucci in the shot put (55’9.5”) helps them out this past week. 4/23: Southern Regional (NJ) had a strong push this past week to regain the lead in this region and to gain three spots in the national race to number 14. AJ Alexander’s impressive mark of 10.87 in the 100 meters leads the way for this team. 4/8: Malvern Prep (PA) is on top of this region with 7158 points led by performances from Doug Moppert in the long jump (23’3.5”) and high jump (5’8”) and Brian Fulton in the 400 meters (50.9) and 1600 meters (4:27.47). Let’s see if they can catch Toms River. 4/16: Tom’s River (NJ) still reigns but no new marks from this team this past week. Southern Regional (NJ) had a strong week jumping them into the second spot with a huge mark from Jillian Smith in the 1 mile (4:53.68). 4/8: Tom’s River (NJ) has a strong lead in this region with 7219 points. There are four athletes on this team that have leading marks in two events each. Angela Rugino in the 1600 meters (5:09.00) and 3200 meters (11:25.10), Maureen Laffan in the discus (122’1”) and shot put (46’6”), Erin Schweiger in the 100 meter hurdle (15.7) and long jump (15’9”) and Alena Crescenzo in the 100 meters (13.0) and 400 meters (1:01.67) make this a strong team. Look out for the 2007 NWN regional winner, Southern Regional (NJ), currently fourth in this region, to make a move who has yet to post a discus and pole vault mark. We’ll see what they can do without the help of Danielle Tauro who graduated last year.

Southeast Boys – 5/1: Mooresville (NC) had one heck of a week with strong marks from Tommy Ryan in the 110 meter hurdles of 14.2, Patrick Campbell in the mile (4:16.73) and 3200 meters (9:13.45) to take the lead in this region and to jump them to the number six spot nationally. 4/23: Amos P Godby (FL) was the only top three team to add more marks since last week to keep them on top of the region and to raise their national rank to the fifth spot. Keith Edwards had a vault of 13’0”, Devin Screen threw the discus 145’8” amd Denzel Bonner put the shot 43’7.75” to add to the team points. 4/16: Amos P. Third place team Brookwood (GA) is led by Robert Jackson’s 110m hurdle mark of 14.22. 4/8: Amos P. Godby’s (FL) Joseph Franklin holds best marks in three events – the 400 meters (48.83), 1600 meters (4:09.13) and 3200 meters (9:15.18) to drive this team to the top of this region. Dorman (SC) is second with marks from Marcus Rowland in the 400 meters (48.6) and Christopher Graham in the 110 meter hurdles (14.8).

Southeast Girls – 5/1: The top two teams of this region remain on top - Collins Hill (GA) and Lake Braddock (VA), first and second respectively - but slip on the national rankings with no new marks this past week. Look for Southwest Dekalb (GA), a 2007 NWN strong performer, to make a move with strong marks currently posted and no marks listed as of yet in the 100 meter hurdles and pole vault.

Heartland Boys – 5/1: Sioux Falls (SD) takes over the lead by only 16 points ahead of Bismarck (ND) who led last week. Andrew Martin’s mark from last week of 51’9” in the shot put was the reason. 4/23: Bismarck (ND) had a big week with marks from Jason Duchscherer in the 100 meters (10.89) and the 400 meters (49.58) and Devin Huizenga in the 1600 meters (4:29.20) and 3200 meters (9:51.10). Heartland Girls – 5/1: Newcomer this past week, Century (ND), comes in and takes over the number one spot in this region. Leading the way for this team are marks from Jill Steinwand in the 100 meters (12.35) and 400 meters (58.03) as well as Nikki Huelsman in the 1600 meters (5:18.67). 4/23: Parkway Central (MO) leads the way in this region with marks from Diane Robison in the 3200 meteres (11:05.10) and 1600 meters (5:03.10) and Raequel Jacobs in the 100 meters (12.2). 4/16: Iowa City West (IA) takes over the top spot in this region. Beatrice (NE) jumps over Lee’s Summit North (MO) who had no new marks this past week. Iowa City West’s Taylor Freeman, last year’s strong performer for this team, leads this team with strong marks in the discus (135’8”) and shot put (45’4.75”). 4/8: Lee’s Summit North (MO) is on top in this region by 254 points over Parkway Central (MO). Midwest Boys – 5/1: Warren Central (IN) had a couple new marks this past week to gain them a few spots up to the number five spot nationally. Michael Campbell with a mark of 11.06 in the 100 meters, Orion Wenrich’s 9:59.46 in the 3200 meters and D’Juan Richardson’s stellar mark of 13.96 in the 110 meter hurdles helped this team’s efforts this past week. 4/23: Warren Central (IN) continues to reign while building to their lead with new marks this past week from Siafa Masaley in the 400 meters and Derrick Spight in the high jump 6’10”. 4/16: Warren Central (IN) still reigns strong in this region with no new marks this past week but look out for number two Boardman (OH) who moved up nine spots nationally to the number 13 spot. Boardman’s Caleb Matthews is the reason with leading marks from him in three events, the 110m hurdles (14.8), the long jump (21’11.25”) and the high jump (6’5”). Look out Warren Central! 4/8: 2007 Midwest NWN regional winner, Warren Central (IN), leads the way in this region yet again. Newcomer Defiance (OH) jumped into the number three spot with marks from Lauren Fett in the 1600 meters (5:28.80) and 3200 meters (11:42.0). 4/16: 4/8: Westfield (IN) is in first place in this region led by marks from Waverly Neer in the 3200 meters (11:06.65) and one mile (5:12.22) and Sarah Kinnaman in the pole vault (11’0”). Saugus (CA) is a fast mover in this region in the number three spot with leading marks from Kaylin Mahoney in the 1600 meters (4:59.28) and in the 3200 meters (10:31.86). 4/8: Dana Hills leads the way this week with the number ranking in this region as well as a number two national ranking. The 2007 Nike Web National regional winner, Murrieta Valley, is a close second (and third place nationally) with help from a talented Amber Middleton running 14.74 in the 100 meter hurdles and Taryn Pastoor running 5:11.17 in the 1600 meters and 11:01.3 in the 3200 meters. This team will only get better with Pastoor looking to better her marks of 5:06.89 in the 1600 and 10:58.9 in the 3200 from last year. Both Dana Hills and Murrieta Valley have to be on their game with Arcadia, Vista Murrieta and Saugus hot on their heels.
