Pan American Junior Championships
Day 3 Highlights
June 6-8, 2007 - Sao Paulo, Brazil
Highlights: More US Prep Gold: Richardson, Knight, Dutch, Centrowitz; 4x400s settle for split
Team USA leads in total medals (48), golds (24), silvers (16), and bronzes (8). Canada 2nd with 4 golds and 13 total.
Results -
Women's Finals
- Ke'Nyia Richardson CA bounded a PR and US#1 44-05.50 with a 1.3 wind for the TJ gold. In third was fellow Californian Ashkia Charan 42-02.75.
- Bianca Knight MS topped a pair of Jamaicans for the 200 title, running 23.17 (+0.5w). Khrystal Carter was 4th in 23.68.
- After taking 2nd in the 100H, Va. Tech star Queen Harrison claimed the 400H in 56.25. In her secondary event, Jackie Coward TN ran another big PR of 57.21 to get the bronze.
- The quartet of Brandi Cross, LaTavia Thomas, Brehanna Jacobs, and Jessica Beard completely dominated the 4x400 with a 5-plus second victory in 3:29.67
- Seattle-Pacific fr Jessica Pixler, 3rd at the USATF Jr 1500, was the winner here in 4:21.09.
- In the women's PV, US prep record-holder Tori Anthony CA, unforuntately, had an off day and was 4th in 13-01.50. But the USA got the gold anyway as collegian Alicia Rue hit 13-09.25 for the win.
- USC fr Shana Woods took the heptathlon lead into the javelin, but was beaten by 9 meters by Canada's Brianne Theisen, and took 2nd overall to her, 5413-5307.
- Prep freshman Emily Sisson NE, one of the youngest competitors in the meet at 15-1/2, was third in a tactical 5000 in 17:47.81.
- Patience Coleman NC took the silver in the HJ with 5-10.50, trailing only Lesyani Mayor Gil of Cuba (6-00.75).
- Lauren Forgues was 2nd for the US in the 10k walk, striding to 51.43.43 behind Ingrid Hernandez COL 48:48.24.
Men's Finals
- Johnny Dutch NC gathered his second gold as he won the 400H in 50.82, sweeping the hurdles. It was a US 1-2 as Jason Perez ran 51.22 for 2nd.
- Reversing his loss at USATF Jrs by the same amazing .01, future Oregon Duck Matt Centrowitz MD nipped current Duck AJ Acosta for the 1500 crown in a kickers race with a 3:56.63-3:56.64 verdict. Diego Borrego MEX was just .23 behind in 3rd. The last 300 was 41.1 as the pace was 66.1-2:13.7-3:15.5
- U of Nebraska fr Arthur Wims came back from 3rd in the 100 to grab the gold in the 200, running 20.80 into an 0.9 headwind. Kyle Stevenson was 4th in 21.32.
- In a very tight 1-2-3 finish, it was Trinidad topping the USA team of Robert Simmons, Chris Ward, Johnny Dutch and Bryshon Nellum in the 4x400, 3:05.70-3:06.15, with Jamaica 3rd in 3:06.17.
- Chris Hill grabbed 2nd in the JT with a 235-09 behind Victor Fetecha PAR 247-05.
- Collegian Zuheir Sharif was 2nd for the US in the TJ with 53-03, behind the big 54-06 of Hector Dairon Feuntes Valdes CUB.
