Day 2 - Keys racks up 7204 pts. for Deca win

Highlights
  • Dakotah Keys OR won the 110H, DT, JT, and was 2nd in the PV, scoring a US #1 7204 (legal) for a decisive win in the Young Men's Decathlon.  New Mexico stars Daniel Gooris (7005) and Curtis Beach (6376) were 2nd and 3rd.
  • The Texas Stars, including 2007 World Youth team member Howard Shepard, ran 7:37.58 to win the 4x800 by 17 seconds and come within 2.31 seconds of the USATF national youth record from 27 years ago.  The After Burner TC, including 1:49 performer Blake Shaw, was 2nd in 7:54.59.
  • Lindsay Vollmer dominated the 2nd day of the Intermediate Girls Heptathlon, scoring 4715 to Lorraine Graham's 4347.  Vollmer won the LJ and was 2nd in the JT.
  • First-day leader Precious Selmon won the LJ, then held on to win the Young Women's Heptathlon with 4450.  Samantha Collins AZ was 2nd with 4324.
  • Gunnar Nixon edged Justin Gross, 5772-5749, to win the Intermediate Boys Decathlon.  Neither won an event outright (Nixon tied for 1st in the PV), but were consistently placing high all day to pull away from the field.
  • Other 4x800 winners included Team Missouri (Young Women, 9:17.48), So Cal Running Cougars (Intermediate Boys, 8:10.00), and United Stars TC (Intermediate Girls, 9:28.44).
  • The 3k racewalks went to Jacob Gunderline (Young Men, 15:02.56), Mercedes Mancha (Young Women, 16:33.65), Joshua Haertel (Intermediate Boys, 14:29.14), and Allison Chin (Intermediate Girls, 16:20.08).
