Flash Highlights
  • Getting a much better start into the lead, Jeff Demps FL was pushed, then pulled to a 10.01 HSR (+1.6w), smashing J-Mee Samuels' record by .07. He finished 2nd behind Tyson Gay's American Record 9.77.
  • Laura Roesler ND was 8th in the second 800 semifinal in 2:06.83.
  • Jeff Demps FL rolled into the quarterfinals, despite a slow start, with a US#1 / #2 all-time 10.12 (+1.8w). The second half of his race was exceptional, as he passed at least two others. Only J-Mee Samuels 10.08 from 2005 is faster.

Preps to Watch for Saturday (all times PT)
  • Men's 100 qualifying (2:30 p.m.) and quarters (5:01 p.m.) - Jeff Demps FL races in heat two of four. Top four will advance from each heat, plus next 8 fastest times. Just 8 of 32 sprinters will be eliminated, but Demps will still have to be at his best to move on as 27 have a faster legal PR than him.
  • Women's 800 semifinals - 4:25 p.m. - Laura Roesler ND races in Heat 2. Most of Roesler's competition now not only has faster PRs, but the semis should go at least under 2:02. If the pace is a slower, kicker's race, though, her chances probably improve.
