By Dave Devine, Dyestat NW Regional Editor

Boys - Girls

BOYS

1. Crater OR—
3. Central Catholic OR—
6. Jesuit OR—

The Adidas Classic at Fernhill Park in Portland OR was anticipated as a major showdown of ranked Oregon boys teams, but the matchup failed to materialize in its entirety when NW#1 Crater elected to run only a few of it’s varsity runners and a NW#6 Jesuit squad that’s looked formidable at times continued to struggle with early season illness and slightly off performances. That left NW#3 Central Catholic to sweep in and steal the show, which they did in impressive fashion, placing all 5 scorers in the top 20 and riding the 5-6 finish of Musa Ahmed and a rebounding Taylor Morgan to a 59-94 win over Jesuit. The spread for the Rams from 1-5 was a tight 29 seconds, while Jesuit's was a still-solid 46-seconds. Crater managed only 11th place with their pared-down squad (varsity runner Zach Elliott took 2nd in the State of Jefferson Invite in Ashland OR the same day in 16:49), while North Medford OR showed themselves to be a team on the rise with their 3rd place performance over NW bubble team South Eugene. 7. Seattle Prep WA—
The Blue Train ran their fifth Metro league meet of the season, primarily using the race to determine their final varsity spot heading into the championship cycle. The rest of the top 6 ran the meet as a tempo, only racing the middle mile, and Seattle Prep still scored 21 for an easy, 39-point victory. The goal at this point, Coach Robertson reports, is to solve the challenge that is North Central in time for the Washington 3A state meet November 3rd. The key could be their pack: even with some of the team tempoing, their 1-7 split was a tight 33 seconds.

GIRLS

1. Jesuit OR—
The Crusaders entered the Adidas Classic on 10/13 ranked #1 in the Northwest and #10 in the US, and the performance they laid down left little doubt that the accolades were well-deserved. Jesuit managed 6 in the top 13 of the elite, 24-team field, for a low score of 32 and a 62-point win over NW bubble team Crater OR. Adrienne McGuirk and Noelle VanRysselberghe led the way with nearly identical times of 18:00.4 and 18:00.8, both tantalizingly close to breaking the 18-minute barrier. The compression was 1:19 from 1-6, but only 15 seconds from 3-6, after the dominant frontrunning of the lead pair. This is a squad that looks primed to tear through the state championship series and arrive in Boise hungry for an NTN bid they felt they deserved last year.

2. Bozeman MT—
The Hawks raced a Thursday dual meet against Butte High and came away with an easy win, scoring 19 to Butte’s 44. Bozeman took 9 of the top 10 places, led by freshman Heidi Turner’s 18:10 win. After Turner's out-there performance, Bozeman crammed the next 8 runners within 42 seconds of each other, and spread their 2nd-5th runners only five seconds apart. Frightening for the other teams at this coming Saturday’s state meet.

Undefeated Nicole Neilsen of Borah won, but Boise packed in the next three, led by Sarah Olson’s 18:59.5 for second. Six runners in the top 15 sealed the win, and showed a team ready for the 5A District III meet on 10/19.
