Laura Roxberg (Blue Valley Northwest KS) won her fourth Metro title in a row to highlight the KC Metro Championships. Run over the rolling course at Raymore-Peculiar HS, the meet features many of the cross country powers in the Kansas City area, both on the Missouri and Kansas side. Roxberg ran early with the pack, including Kansas compatriots Kristen Gillespie (Shawnee Mission South) and Erin Beck (Blue Valley North). Roxberg then gapped the pack to win in 18:55 over 5k. Gillespie was second at 19:20, with Beck third at 19:26. Johanna Kleinsasser (Lee's Summit West) was fourth at 19:38 with Allie Marquis (Shawnee Mission East KS (19:40) was fifth. Lee's Summit West's young team scored 120 points to win, with St. Teresa's (Kansas City) second at 145. Blue Valley Northwest KS was third with 161, with Lee's Summit North (191) and Notre Dame de Sion (Kansas City, 197) fourth and fifth. Oak Park (Kansas City) has long been highly regarded in Kansas City area circles , and the Northmen earned that respect Saturday, with a close victory in the KC Metro Championships. Will Hansen led the Northmen, winning the individual title with a time of 16:06 over 5k. Phillip Hickman (Blue Springs) was second at 16:12, with Harrisonville's Maksim Korolev third (16:16). Zach Zarda (Maranatha Academy, Shawnee KS) was the first Kansan to finish, placing fourth at 16:20, just ahead of Dalton Moberly (Kearney 16:22). Oak Park put Hanson up front, then packed well to score 119 points to edge Shawnee Mission South KS (134), Rockhurst (Kansas City 135), Lee's Summit North (136) and Lee's Summit West (142) in very tight team scoring.
