Striking While the Iron's Hot
Fresh on the heels of his NON 2-mile triumph and his USATF Junior Nationals 1500 runner-up, Maryland star Matt Centrowitz (right) tackles some unfinished business tonight in an open mile race at Indiana University's Billy Hayes Track.
Adding a layer of intrigue to Centrowitz's sub-4 attempt will be the presence of apparently ageless Masters star Jim Sorensen (left), pursuing the first sub-4 outdoor mile for a Masters (over-40) runner.
The gun goes off at 10:15 pm local time, with Centrowitz taking another shot at not only a family record in the mile (trying to beat the 4:02.7 HS personal best set by his father, Matt Sr., in 1973 while running for Power Memorial High School in Manhattan), but also history's fifth sub-4 mile by an American schoolboy.
