Bryant AR sr, NIN runner-up, and Simplot champ Spencer McCorkel realized his dream of clearing 17-07 Saturday when he made the height on his first try at the Spring Break Open. He is the 10th prep ever to clear 17-07 or better and it is the best vault by a high schooler since Tommy Skipper set the record at 18-03 in 2003.  The PR vault followed another first-try clearance at 17-04, which beat his previous PR from 2006. He then raised the bar to 18' where he missed thrice.

At NIN, McCorkel daringly passed 17-05 for an unsuccessful shot at an indoor HSR 17-07, which may have cost him the title. Saturday, he proved he was worthy of the height.

Also ... teammate Jason Pelletier 2nd in 15-06 and Mena's Staci Yahn wins girls at 12-00.
