Boerne jr Lorin Wilson pushed the middle pace and had a sizeable lead with 200 meters to go. Simmons passed him on the homestretch and Wilson held on for the silver.

• Normally I go out and lead the whole way, in the few 1600s I’ve run. But today my coach told me the times wouldn’t be that fast because of the weather, so let’s just win. I tried to stay right behind the first person so I could go when it was time. Just be patient, let them do all the work. I used to run a lot of 400s so I thought I might have decent speed.
• That’s a PR (5:01), but I hope to be way better than that this year.
• Whewww, I’m finally done! I literally can’t feel my face, it’s frozen (and she’s from Boulder, Colorado.)
