The last time these four teams met, at Nike South, Cedar Park had won handily. Just last week, Georgetown topped Cedar Park at District. But this week it was all The Woodlands, as they rolled up an impressive 30 points (1-3-4-10-12), with a 15:13 average on a fast 3-mile course, a 33-second spread, and had all 5 scorers in before Georgetown’s 3rd and everyone else’s 2nd. Cedar Park claimed silver with 81 points (7-14-17-21-22) and a 15:34 average, ahead of Georgetown with 91 (2-9-13-31-36) and 15:33. Klein Oak was the odd-man out, tallying 110 for a non-qualifying 4th, with College Park 5th with 151. Round Rock sr Carl Stones pulled away in the final stages, clocking 14:53.00 ahead of The Woodlands jr Reed Connor in 14:54.40, with Georgetown jr Evan Hibbs earning bronze in 15:09.15.

10. Brother Martin LA
Jesuit, ranked #2 in the state coaches poll and a South bubble team, captured the District 10-5A title over Brother Martin on Thursday. Br Martin sr Kenneth Schiffman claimed individual honors in 15:48 over 3 miles, but then Jesuit grabbed the next 4 spots, on its way to a 28 (2-3-4-5-7) to 40 (1-6-10-11-12) victory.
full meet report

Jesuit coach Peter Kernion said, “I felt that 1-4 ran well for us, but our 5-7 need to run better for us to win state. Brother Martin seemed to have a bad race, so I expect them to bounce back for state.”

Brother Martin coach Ryan Gallagher added, “We ran the first mile way too hard, and that basically sealed the deal. The guys were disappointed, but we've moved on. I really believe that if we stay within ourselves and do what we are capable of, instead of trying to do things we haven’t trained to do, we will run our best race of the season at the State meet.”

Next: both have Metro (New Orleans) on Wednesday, followed by State 5A next Tuesday

2. The Woodlands TX
8. A&M Consolidated TX
9. College Park TX

When College Park spun-off from The Woodlands 2 years ago, there was speculation about what kind of impact it might have on each program. That’s partly answered now, as College Park advanced to State for the first time in its 3-year existence (and the boys finished 5th with a lone senior in its top 6), with 64 points and an 11:50 average. Meanwhile, The Woodlands girls keep rolling along with as much success as ever, earning silver with 74 and a quicker 11:48 average. A&M Consolidated was the final qualifier, taking 3rd with 75. Plano West jr Jenny Swan broke the tape in 11:08.85, followed by Woodlands soph Sarah Andrews in 11:12.40 and Westfield sr Brintney Green in 11:19.50.

4. Keller TX
5. Southlake Carroll TX

The future looked bright for Keller back in September as they sat atop the South rankings and at #8 in the US rankings, with a win at home over Kingwood on 9/22. But then their usual #4 Ashley Vincent was laid up with an injury, and they were 3rd at McNeil behind a Cinco Ranch squad that was missing two probable scorers, then 2nd to a short-handed Southlake Carroll team at Haltom. However, she returned for District last week, and was back at #4 to key Keller’s Region I-5A victory with 60 points. Southlake Carroll, which finished 2nd to Keller at last year’s District and Region before turning the tables for a state meet win, hopes it’s headed down that same path with a 70 point runner-up performance, followed by Odessa with 166 for 3rd. Haltom freshman Ashley Flores ran like a veteran with an 11:21.11 winner, upending a top-notch field which included Southlake Carroll soph Tara Upshaw (state 3rd in 2006) in 11:22.37 for silver.

In the 3A race, Argyle sr Kristie Krueger clocked 11:16.87, the day’s quickest time.
