SO#3 Georgetown TX
SO#7 Kingwood TX

The Brenham Hillacious Invite looked to have a strong field, and it appeared to get even better when Georgetown showed up rather than traveling to Lubbock as scheduled. Alas, the competition was tight, but the top teams were short-handed today. Houston Memorial nabbed the team title with 65 points. Kingwood, resting its top 4, earned silver with 78. Cinco Ranch was missing usual #1 Zac Flowers and took 3rd with 79. Georgetown had 5 of its top 7 get sick this week, causing the change in plans, with the 2 healthy along with 5 JV athletes ending up 4th with 113.

However, someone forgot to tell Mother Nature - and heavy thunderstorms forced the meet to be canceled.

Emma did not run for us last year so we are hopeful she will continue to improve by leaps and bounds.” Looking ahead to this week, she added, “We won’t be running in the Gold race (5000 meters) at McNeil (state meet site) as I want my rookies to run the 3200-meter state meet course.”

Coach Ray Baca said, “Our girls went out way too fast, but it was nice to see a couple of them fight through the early discomfort and keep competing. A few of our younger members got caught up in the early rush and never regained their composure. I think and hope it will be a great learning experience. Our original #2 has had a quad injury and we may keep her from running on it (she will do some cross training) another couple of weeks, in hopes of having her for regionals and state.”

SO#5 The Woodlands TX
finished a solid 4th in Stanford Invite seeded race in California. US#16/NW#1 Jesuit OR captured the Seeded team title with 108 points, averaging 18:54 for the 5000-meter course. In 2nd was Rancho Buena Vista CA with 128 (18:57 avg), followed by CA#8 Torrey Pines with 135 (19:00), The Woodlands with 195 (19:20) and Buchanan CA with 221. The Woodlands soph Sarah Andrews ran a fine race, clocking 18:15 for 7th, the 8th fastest time overall across all divisions.

Coach Noel Hansen said, “We had an eventful three days in California and certainly enjoyed the trip. As far as the race, we got gapped (too spread out) at the beginning of the race. If that had been our last meet of the year I might have been disappointed with the results. However, it wasn't and I'm not. We have a great chance to run a 5K again this week on a course (Nike South) a lot easier than that one."

SO#7 Clear Lake TX
raced at the Aldine Invite, finishing 2nd to Cy-Woods 54-60, with Cy-Fair rounding out the top 3 with 72 points. Clear Lake was without its usual #1, who had another commitment.

Coach James Menze said, “Cy-Woods ran well, they are in the mix of Region III elite teams. We just started our speed work this week and the girls were complaining of sore legs, but overall I was pleased. Our top 5 average time was better than last year. I would definitely say we are on track.”
