Class 4A Highlights
  • In a near-replay of last year's progressive oneupsmanship, '08 champ and Melbourne senior Brian Atkinson topped the winning times from the 2A and 3A races which preceded his, running 15:20.48 for fastest of the day and a 10-second win over Chamberlain's Mark Parrish (15:30.85).  The SE#4 Miami Columbus boys topped SE#2 and US#36 Dr. Phillips easily, scoring 60 points to Dr. Phillips 126
  • Winter Park senior Shelby Hayes led her team to the top of the podium with an 18:13.02 win over Freedom frosh Bridget Blake (18:30.24).  Melbourne girls were second, with 105 to WP's 64
Class 3A Highlights
  • SE#1 and US#25 Chiles girls were led by a stellar 1-2 finish from sophomores Carly Thomas (18:20.97) and Lily Williams (18:21.48) to a 40 point total, 22 clear of runner-up Lakewood Ranch's 62
  • Leon senior Matt Mizereck took the individual title with a 15:21.64 victory over Creekside rival Jimmy Clark (15:25.41), and led his squad to the team trophy as well, topping runner-up Belen Jesuit, 59 to 103, on the strength of 3 in the top 5.
Class 2A Highlights
  • Bishop Kenny senior Colin Barker claimed the 2A title his teammate Michael Wallace won in 2008, running 15:22.86 to top Estero senior Erick Montoya's 15:24.08 and start the scoring on a narrow, 106-109, victory for the SE#7 Bishop Kenny squad over Montoya's Estero team.  Defending champ Wallace was a close 15:30.49 in fourth.
  • 2008 girls champion Stephanie Schappert (Pope John Paul II) was a repeat winner as a junior, running 17:58.93 to overcome Fernandina Beach senior Stephanie Strasser's 18:02.88.  The Bolles girls claimed the team title handily, with 87 points to runner-up Bishop Kenny's 134
Class 1A Highlights
  • Community School of Naples twin juniors Kathryn and Erika Fluehr went their customary 1-2, with Kathryn dipping under 17-minutes for a sterling 16:59.53 victory, and Erika second in 17:35.23.  In close scoring, Holy Trinity was a 92-97 victor in the team race over Maclay.
  • Maclay jr Patrick Swain repeated the individual state title he won in '08 with a 15:44.98 victory, but Trinity Prep's 3-4 junior combo of Franklin Chase IV (16:02.19) and Griffin Jaworski (16:04.30) led their team to the top of the podium with 48 points over Holy Trinity's 55
