Roosevelt girls take yet another title in 4A


Team Champs:
  • Class 4A - Gaithersburg boys 38 tied with Thomas Johnson 38; Eleanor Roosevelt girls 95 over Oxon Hill 59
  • Class 3A - Westlake boys 65 over Atholton 49; Paint Branch girls 54 over Hereford 51
  • Class 2A - North Point boys 50 over Baltimore Poly 41; Middletown girls 68 over River Hill 60
  • Class 1A - Western STES boys 69 over Glenelg 56; Williamsport girls 78.50 over River Hill 73

Class 4A Highlights
  • Foot Locker XC champ and Sherwood sr Solomon Haile swept the boys 1600 (4:18.74) and 3200 (state record 9:19.74)
  • Thomas Johnson sr Emily Vannoy moved to US#2 in the girls SP with her winning state record 47-10.25
  • US girls 500 leader and Eleanor Roosevelt jr Afia Charles took the event in 1:14.99, just .3 off her top mark
  • Roosevelt jr Aurieyall Scott and Wootton soph Olivia Ekpone had two great girls sprint battles, with Scott winning the 55, 7.07-7.08, and Ekpone taking the girls 300, 39.20 to 39.64.  The 39.20 missed the state record by .01
  • Quince Orchard sr Wayne Bartholomew ruled the boys 500 (1:04.92) and 800 (state record 1:55.98)
  • Thomas Johnson jr Erick Artusio tied the 4A record in the boys PV with 15-00
  • Roosevelt girls took both the 4x200 (1:41.31) and 4x400 (4:01.33)
  • Roosevelt soph Amirah Johnson swept the girls 800 (2:18.66) and 1600 (5:06.42)
  • Roosevelt sr Denison Long nipped Northwest jr Hassan Dixon in the 300, 35.25 to 35.27
  • Quince Orchard sr Marcus Brown won the boys SP in 56-07.75
  • C.H. Flowers jr Lorraine Graham nipped Bowie sr Cassuandra Bouldin in the girls 55H, 8.12-8.15
  • Broadneck took the boys 4x800 in 8:02.05
  • North Carroll soph Amber Melville took the girls high jump in 5-06
Class 3A Highlights
  • US 55 and 60 leader and Westlake sr Devon Smith took the boys 55 in a 3A record 6.37, and won a very tight 300 in 35.42 as Frederick sr Brady Wilson had the same time.  Smith also ran on Westlake's winning 1:30.84 4x200.
  • Catonsville soph Xauddina Whittington doubled in the girls 500 (3A record 1:15.24) and 300 (39.94)
  • Paint Branch sr Arielle Statham dashed winning 7.11 for the girls 55, was 2nd in the 300 (40.40), and ran on the winning 4x200 (1:43.40) and 4x400 (4:03.03) relays
  • Atholton sr Michael Lynch took the boys 3200 in a state record 9:25.53 (broken later by Solomon Haile), beating teammate Graham Bazell and his record from last year
  • Tuscarora sr Dominic Clarke took the boys 500 in 1:07.25 as three broke 1:08
  • Hereford sr Jenna Cimino doubled in the girls 800 (2:21.40) and 1600 (5:15.94)
  • With four under 4:26, Atholton sr Graham Bazell took the boys 1600 in 4:23.28
  • Paint Branch sr Vanessa Jules won the girls high jump in 5-06, with Largo sr Shaunte Boney clearing the same height
  • Western took a solid girls 4x800 in 9:39.81
Class 2A Highlights
  • Patuxent jr Amina Smith flew to a 2A record 5-08 in the HJ, just an inch off the national lead, with North Pointe jr Shavon Briscoe 2nd at 5-06
  • Walkersville sr Jon Hill soared 2A record 6-10.50, his 3rd time over 6-10 this winter, to take the HJ
  • River Hill sr Craig Morgan topped the 2A 1600 mark with 4:21.96 and won the 3200 in 9:44.05
  • Middletownj sr Brittney Caudel set two 2A records - edging Queen Anne's soph Charlotte Staver, 2:16.85 to 2:17.03, in the 800 as both topped the old mark, and winning the 1600 in 5:10.19 (Century soph Marau Linde also beating record with 5:11.05).  She was also 2nd in the 500 to Baltimore Poly sr Tonney Smith (1:17.60 to 1:18.65).
  • Baltimore Poly sr Michael Houston took the 500 in 1:06.87 and was 3rd in the 300
  • Central sr Mark Davis sped to a winning 35.63 in the 300
  • North Point boys set a 2A mark in the 4x200 with a dominating 1:31.81
  • Winters Mill boys took down the 2A 4x800 mark with 8:13.55
Class 1A Highlights
  • Digital Harbor jr Chelsea Walker took the 300 (41.61), 55 (7.33), was 2nd in the 55H (8.68), and ran on the winning 4x200
  • Clear Spring jr Paige Shirk dominated the SP with a 1A record 41-04.50
  • Glenelg sr Connor Pencek swept the 500 (1:07.59) and 800 (2:04.74)
  • South Carroll sr Rachel Sykes took the 1600 (5:22.26) and 3200 (12:00.30)
  • Pikesville soph Sasha Smallwood claimed the girls PV in 1A record 11-01
  • Western STES boys took both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays
  • Digital Harbor girls took the 4x200 (1:48.94) and 4x400 (4:14.33) relays
  • Smithsburg sr Billy Lawrence tied the 1A HJ record with 6-04
