DyeStat XC Region Review NY Boys

Summary of New York Top Ten, Week Ending Sept. 22, 2007

By Tom Cuffe, Dyestat NY Boys Regional Editor

THE BATTLE ON THE HUDSON LEADS THE CHARGE THIS WEEK!

#1. Queensbury
 – a dominating performance by the Q-Men at the Section 10 Invite which was run on the course that the NYSPHSAA will run its Class Championships on in November – November 10th to be precise. Matt Flint took the individual title to lead a 1 – 5 – 6 – 8 – 11 devastation of the entire field as they averaged a swift 17:03 as team for 5 runners. Queensbury has been off to a terrific start this year and will look to continue their fine running as the season progresses.

# 4. Smithtown
 – Were originally slated to travel to upstate NY but a school ruling kept them closer to home to take an easy win with 27 points. Gio Signoretti once again paced this Long island squad to victory with a swift 16:55 over the rather tough Sunken Meadow 5000 meter course. With a compression of 65 seconds with a front runner like Gio this is certainly a tough squad.

# 5. Warwick Valley
 – so Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Sneezy simply annihilated the entire state of Florida 1+2+3+4+5 = 15 points… talk about keeping the scoring simple!!! Lions, Tigers and Bears -- OH MY (wait that’s an MGM Production directed by Victor Flemming circa 1939)! The bottom line here is that this squad of Leuchanka, Ackerman, Prial, Fox and Miniger may very well be the best team in all of NYS at the moment. My apologies to Coaches St. Lawrence & Potter! This is not like the Sports Illustrated kiss of death (I pray).

# 6. Arlington
 – the Admirals simply demolished the field with an overall onslaught of 1 – 3 – 5 – 7 for 18 points. The top three of Leslie, Doherty and Muller are proving to be quite good for this La Granville group, they even cut down that 5 man compression to a very notable 54 seconds.

Kellenberg Memorial placed a very good 4th at the Bowdoin Park Classic with front running Thomas Elnick leading the Firebirds out the CHSAA. This Kevin Buckley coached team has a nice balance and will be looking to break into the NTN NY top ten! “I coulda been a contender” – wait THEY ARE & will be.
