Rowe wins her 2nd D-I crown
Mt. Mansfield boys, Champlain Valley girls back on top; Harwood Union sweeps D-II

Team Champs:
  • Division I - Mt. Mansfield Union boys 70 over Essex 94; Champlain Valley girls 69 over Stratton Mountain 78
  • Division II - Harwood Union boys 60 over Montpelier 98; Harwood Union girls 39 over Burr and Burton Acad. 73
  • Division III (4 runners score)- Thetford Academy boys 37 over Lake Region Union 59; Randolph Union girls 33 over Bellows Free Academy Fairfax 34

Boys Highlights
  • After a string to start the decade where Essex won 5 straight D1 titles, Mt. Mansfield won its fourth in five years, scoring 70 to its rival's 94.  The two schools also led the combined scoring.  Champlain Valley had a tough 1-2 punch, with winner Zach Pete and Justin McKenzie (5th), but wound up 4th, 18 behind Essex
  • Zach Pete, who was 6th as a junior last year for Champlain Valley, edged defending champ and senior David Sinclair of Green Mountain for the D1 title, with both clocked in 17:44.  Mt. Mansfield Union's Trevor  Bibb led their winning effort in 3rd at 18:21
  • Harwood Union won its 3rd D-II title in a row and fifth this decade, scoring 60 to Montpelier's 98.  Tim Shepard led Harwood Union's effort with the overall victory in 18:35, 15 seconds up on Montpelier sr Sam Brigham.  Shephard was 5th last year
  • In D-III, Thetford won its 3rd title in a row, scoring 37 to Lake Region Union's 59.  Thetford jr James Labelle moved up from 2nd last year to win in 18:52, six seconds better than Mt. St. Joseph's Acad. sr Benjamin Smith
Girls Highlights
  • St. Johnsbury sr Hannah Rowe completed a fine career that saw her finish 2nd, 1st and 1st her final three seasons.  She won the D-I race easily with the day's best time, 20:10.  Rutland jr Mary Kate Cirelli was 2nd in 20:37, herself 53 seconds ahead of 3rd
  • After their 5-year reign came to an end in 2008, Champlain Valley won their 6th D-I crown in 7 years, scoring 69 to Stratton Mountain's 78
  • Harwood Union won their first D-II title since 2000, scoring 39 to beat defending champ Burr and Burton Acad. by 34.  Middlebury Union soph Emily Anderson, 5th in the D-I race as a frosh before her school dropped down this year, dominated the D-II race with a 21:40, 48 seconds up on Missisquoi Valley sr Megan Flint
  • Thetford Academy soph Anna Smith repeated in D3, running 22:17 to win by 14 seconds over Mill River Union soph Brooke Davis.  Randolph Union nipped Bellows Free Academy for its first-ever team title, 33-34
