Randolph girls upset NJ #1 Hillsborough for Group 4 title.  Don Bosco stuns NJ/NE #1 CBA, and Rosa twins and Ley roll

Highlights


  • NJ #4 Don Bosco Prep shocked NE #1/US#17 CBA, 44-60 for its fourth straight Non-Public A title. Don Bosco put three runners ahead of CBA's second man and averaged 16:37.6, tied for second fastest of the day on the muddy course.
  • Randolph  
  • Junior twins Joe (first place) and Jim Rosa (second) of NJ#3  West Windsor North, both run 15:37, the top times of the day, to lead their team to a third straight Group 3 title. WW North averaged 16:25.2,  No. 1 on the day and No. 12 all-time.
  • Defending M of C winner and FL finalst Tyler Udland of Millburn is third behind the Rosa twins in Group 3 in 15:44.
  • NJ #2 Randolph, led by junior Joelle Amaral (fourth, 19:11) packed five runners into the top 26 to edge out NJ #1 Hillsborough, 66-73 for team honors. 
  • NJ #6 Westfield boys avenged its sectional loss to NJ# 5 Ridge, 133-160, for its first Group 4 title since 1996 and its 13th overall, the third most in state history.
  • Jon ``Boo'' Vitez runs 15:57 to win Group 2 to become the seventh boy in state history to win three straight state titles as he leads NJ#2 Haddonfield to its fourth straight title and 12th overall. Haddonfield averaged 16:37.6, tied with Don Bosco for second best of the meet.
  • Dave Oster of Verona made it two in a row in the boys Group 1 race with a Group 1 record 15:52.
  • Kingsway senior Chelsea Ley recorded the fastest girls time of the meet and won her first state title in 17:53, while NJ #5 Voorhees, led by senior Colette Whitney (fifth, 19:01), cranked out its fourth straight girls Group  3 title, beating Hopewell Vallley, 85-157.
  • After winning gold in 2007 and placing ninth last season, Haddonfield senior  Marielle Hall ran her way back to the Group 2 throne with a 19:18, and NJ #15 Delsea held off NJ #16 Haddonfield, 81-112, winning its first title and snapping Haddonfield's four-year win streak.
  • Senior Joe Kotran of Toms River North outkicks Colts Neck junior Mike O'Dowd, 15:55 to 16:00, to take the boys Group 4 race.
  • Junior Colin Richmond wins in 16:46 to lead St. Rose to the boys Non Public B title.
  • Caroline Kellner, a sophomore from West Windsor-Plainsboro South, won the girls Group 4 individual title in 18:43,
  • Junior Mike Mazzaccaro of CBA becomes seventh and final runner of the day under 16 by winning boys Non Public A in 15:59
  • Brianna Feerst, a sophomore from Point Pleasant Beach, became her school's first individual champion in eight years and second overall with a winning time in Group 1 of 19:47, while Mountain Lakes placed its five runners in the top 19 to win its first Group 1 title since 2005, edging defending champion Robbinsville, 50-58.
  • Holy Angels and Michelle Capozzi of Red Bank Catholic (19:13) win the girls Non-Public A titles.
  • Kristen Traub of Eastern Christian (19:43) and Villa Walsh won its first Non Public B girls titles.
