The South Brunswick girls, which broke the meet and Middlesex County record in the 4x1,600 on Tueday, added meet records in the SM (4:10.5) and DM (12:54.9). as it ran away with its fourth straight title, 138-58, over runner-up Woodbridge.
It's the highest finish ever for the Woodbridge girls, which won both the 4x100 and 4x200 and the javelin. Junior Victoria Tudor anchored both sprint relays for Woodbridge.
The Old Bridge boys, which won the shot put, 4x1,600 and 400 hurdles on Tuesday, picked up wins in the 4x800 and DM on Wednesday on its way to a 96-70 win over runner-up St. Joseph's. It's the fourth straight title for Old Bridge, which has now won eight of the last 10 titles.
Old Bridge won despite missing All-State 800/400/400 IH man Sean Lunkenheimer (out for season witha stresss fracture).
Old Bridge's eight total boys team titles is one short of the GMC record of nine held by St. Joseph's .
In a very strong and exciing discus competition, Jorge Merino of Old Bridge, who led his team to the shot put title on Tuesday, came up with a huge personal and meet best 161-7 on his final attempt to help Old Bridge take second in that event. Merino's throw topped the 154-8 by freshman state record holder Sam Mattis of East Brunswick, who had that throw prior to Merino's 161-7.
Jon Marques (50.8 in the SM and 50.5 in the 4x400) and Matt Delaney (2:01.8 in the SM and 50.7 in the 4x400) each picked up golds in the SM and 4x400 for St. Joseph's.
The Dunellen boys had its greatest meet in school history, placing fifth with 36 points. Alan-Michael Perryman was on all three winning teams for Dunellen, the long and triple jump and the 4x100.
