Voorhees and Morris Hills win fast DMR's. Vena just misses Armory record
NEW YORK - The Voorhees girls and Morris Hills boys came looking to drop hot distance medley relays times. Nick Vena of Morristown came looking to drop a bomb in the shot put. All three got what they wanted and did so in spectacular fashion at last night’s Varsity Classic at the New Balance Track and Field Center. Lanie Thompson (photo left by John Nepolitan) won a duel between Foot Locker finalists when she outkicked good friend Shelby Greany of Suffern NY over the final 200 meters to bring Voorhees across first in the girls DM in a US #312:05.9, which tied for No. 17 all-time in New Jersey. Thompson’s covered her 1,600 anchor in 4:58.1. Suffern was second in a US #4 12:11.0.
Then it was Morris Hills’ turn as the boys from the school in Rockaway NJ chased its second US#1 time of the season. FULL MEET REPORT from Jim Lambert

Janice Jackson (Medgar Evers, NY) takes the girls HH in a US#1 7.6 in trials and wins final in 7.7. Other fast times in the sprints - Kevin Malivert (Ramapo, NY) 6.3 nips Ronnie Ratliff (Franklin, NJ) 6.4. Ratliff ran 6.3 in the trials. Claudio Delli Carpini (Harrison, NY) takes the hurdles in 7.2 just ahead of Rolston Braithwaite (Trenton Central, NJ) also in 7.2. Delli Carpini then beats Braithwaite again to win the long jump with a 23' 1.5". Braithwaite does get a gold in the triple jump with a leap of 47' 7.5"
Laura Vigilante (Mendham, NJ) pulls away to win the 3200 in 11:07.7
Ramapo's (NY) Chidi Ezemma comes from behind in the last 50 meters to nip Fred Locklary (Newburgh, NY) at the line in teh 400 as both are timed in 49.1. Brittany Wallace (Penn Wood, Pa) wins the girls 2 lap event in 56.4 then wins the 200 in 24.7
With Footlocker Finalist Aisling Cuffe on the anchor leg, Corwall (NY) leads gun to wire to win the 4 x 800 relays in 9:29.3
Nick Vena (Morristown, NJ) once again wins the shot with a 67' 0" throw missing the Armory facility record by just 1"
Glenn Scheideler (Randolph, NJ) has a break through after being stuck at 6'6" for a number of weeks to clear 6' 8" to win the high jump
Right after running a section of the 200, Janelle Clayton (Suffern, NY) wins the high jump clearing 5' 7"
To end the night Newburgh (NY) sweeps the 4 x 400's. The girls go from last after a dropped stick in th first 10 meters to win in 4:02.3. The boys fight off a challange from Henderson (PA) for the wine
