Reebok Boston Indoor Games Girls Jr. Mile Features Top Field

BOSTON (Jan. 20) – Organizers announced the field for Girls Jr. Mile at the 2009 Reebok Boston Indoor Games today.  Once again, the event promises to be one of the highlights of the evening’s program standouts athletes from eight states as well as Canada. 

The field is led by hometown favorite and 8-time State Champion from Harvard, MA, Emily Jones; New York’s two-time XC State Champion Emily Lipari; 2007 NTN Champion, Madeline Morgan from Birmingham, AL; last year’s runner-up from Ontario, CA Jessica Parry; and Mississippi State Champion, Cory Ann McGee.

Since the Reebok Boston Indoor Games began in 1996, more than 100 Olympic and World Championship medalists have competed in the event, which has also played host to six World and 29 National Records. The Junior Invitational Mile races for boys and girls annually showcase top indoor marks.  2008 race produced the fastest indoor mile in the country for the year (4:48.83), which began in 2005, has quickly become one of the most prestigious events of its kind. In 2008, the boys’ mile produced the fastest 2008 indoor time in the country (4:08.77) as well as six of the top ten best times in the nation.

Challenging them will be Bridget Dahlberg (Newton South HS/Newton Centre, MA), three-time Massachusetts State Champion; Shelby Greany (Suffern HS/Suffern, NY), 2008 National Junior Champion in the Steeplechase; Brianna Welch (North Shore HS/Glen Head, NY), two-time All American at 800m; Stephanie Brown (Tri-Valley HS/Downs, IL), 3-time state Champion at 800m; Alyssa Allison (Festus Senior HS/ Herculaneum, MO), 2008 State Champion at 1600m and 3200m; Brittany Koziara (Boone HS/Orlando, FL), 2008 State Champion at 1600m; and Amanda Winslow (Collins Hill HS/Lawrenceville, GA), 2008 Outdoor All-American at the mile. 

The 14th-annual Reebok Boston Indoor Games, the second stop in USA Track & Field’s Visa Championship Series, begins at 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College, 1350 Tremont St. Information is now available on-line at www.BostonIndoorGames.com, and tickets are available on-line or by calling 1-877-TIX-TRAC.
