NE #1 Don Bosco (NJ) had the fastest average of the day – 13:28.03 over the historic Van Cortlandt Park course to kick of their 2008 season. Leading the way for the North New Jersey school was senior Leighton Spencer becoming the newest member of the exclusive sub 13:00 club with a 12:56.19 clocking. Running without two team members (sitting for violation of team rules) who are expected to be in the team’s top 5, Bosco put its top 7 runners in the top 14 places of the race. Don Bosco is expected to be a full strength this weekend when they travel to the Warwick (NY) Invitational.
Brianna Cane of Valley Stream North(NY) took top honors in the girl’s race beating 2nd place Lean Goeke (Garnet Valley) by 4 seconds 16:12.51 – 16:16.71 as they were the only two runners under 17;00 for the 2.5 mile course.
