The NXN Midwest Scene: Terre Haute, Indiana
The "high land" or Terre Haute (Indiana) as the French explorers said back in the early 18th centrury, was the scene for the NXN Midwest Regional. Terre Haute sits along the Wabash River on a plateau like rise. The area began as an agricultural community, then a coal and railroads based ecomony until today when the economy relies primarily on education and retail.
One of Terre Haute's oldest and most ongoing successful busineses is Hulman & Company which is the parent company for Clabber Girl Corporation, a producer of baking powder, and other food products. The company began in the 1850's. While many changes have been made, it still produces Clabber Girl baking soda.
Hulman & Company has owned the Indiapolis Motor Speedway since 1945. Since that time many improvements have been made to the facility and the race and according to the IndyStar.com, it has become the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing."

The Clabber Girl museum brings the early days of the company to life. There are scenes that depict the history of a grocery store, baking and the family's interest in auto racing.

The Sycamores
Terre Haute is also home to Indiana State University, whose nickname is the Sycamores. Indiana State University was named one of the "Best Midwestern Colleges" by Princeton Review for several years and its various colleges and programs are highly regarded by a number of certifying organizations.
| The Hulman Memorial Student Union and Commons which is ordinarily, a very busy spot with a fountain brightening up the commons, sits now, in the cool of late fall with the fountain off for the season. Still it's a nice spot to enjoy the campus.

The NXN Meet
The NXN Midwest Regional takes place on the LaVern Gibson championship Cross Country Course which is part of the 240 acre Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. The course has the distinction of being one of the few courses in the world built exclusively for cross country races. At stake are places in the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon December 5, 2009.
And to make sure you find the course, there were billboards along I-70, US 41 and Indiana 46 to mark the way.

| The message is clear....It's all about Nike Nationals.
