The Class A Boys meet will be one to watch as many of the state’s top small class athletes will compete for indoor supremacy.
Sprints- Dontae Pryor (Kewanee) may be a slight favorite but his competition is very stiff when Rock Fall teammates Brian Diaz and Tyler Barnes are added. Corey Hammon (Illini Bluffs) is a no doubter in the 200m at 23.1 but will have his hands full in the 400m. That’s because Malcoln Taylor of Urbana University has a blazing seed time of 50.58. Hurdler Derick Higgins of Cuba is the one to watch in the 55HH.
Distance- The 800m field is small but competitive. Justin Montgomery (Robinson) has the top mark of 2:03. That's one second better than Matt Cyrier (Kankakee McNamara) has put up. The always solid Parker Thompson (Tremont) will go after some fast times. He has run 4:29 so far this season.
Field- Perhaps the best field event athlete is Alex Freshour of Olympia. Freshour has a 14-9 best, but is capable of much more. Stay tuned. Zach Riley of Herrin has the top mark in the long jump at 21-8.25, but it is his high jump that is so incredible. He has an all class best of 7-0 and it's also among the nation's best. Shot Putter Chris Dubree of Olympia has the top throw of 51-11. Triple Jump specialist Kendrick Simelton of Frankfort has leaped 43-4. Relays- Rock Falls has a slight edge on the field in the 4x200 relay at 1:35.8 over Farmington. Carthage and Olympia will chase medals as well. Herrin owns the top mark of 3:37.2 in the 4x400 but Annawan and Unity (Tolono) are also under 3:39.. Look for St. Joe Ogden to lower their 8:34.2 in the 4x800, Beecher and Rockford Christian will be hot on the case.
