Summary: a completely loaded field minus Chicago Morgan Park lined for the grand finale. The two teams here to watch and rematch were Batavia and Benet Academy. Batavia got the best of Benet Academy at the Downers Grove South Mustang Relays earlier in the month and the Redwings wanted revenge. Both parties knew Natalie Tarter and McKinzie Schulz would cancel themselves out, so the winners would have to get to the anchor first. Batavia got a good lead off from Melisa Norville in 61.xx. Benet fought hard but fell behind Conant. Tarter's long stride sped the opening 200m with enough ground to cruise, while Schulz blazed her first lap in a desperate attempt to close out Conant and then go after first. Batavia cruised home for the victory under Tarter's 57.1 anchor to Schulz's 57.4.

Summary: Heat 3: Lane Tech's Chris Kyles got things started with a 51 second lead off but that was soon evaporated by Loyola. Loyola maintained the momentum by Dylan Remick who closed in a fast 49.9 and . Heat 2: Belleville East knew that they had a shot at the overall win if they ran their race. True to form they ran 51 and 50 for the first two legs before an unfortunate mishap on the anchor leg. Chris Buchanan ran into an official that wandered into his lane. He was able to maintain his poise and still finish first. However, the Maroons finished second overall to Loyola and with that a little controversy. |
