The varsity Boys race was the feature and highlight race of the morning as San Benito-Hollister, Enterprise of Redding and host Del Mar toured the campus 3 mile course. Ben Morales (San Benito) who cracked the course
record with a fine 14:39.2, opened to an early 10 yard lead with Matt Sartor, freshman Tim Nelson (Liberty Christian), Dawit Gezahng and Dennis Bekele giving close chase as the group went through the mile in 4:50
after a 2:17 opening 800. Morales increase his lead as the others battled for what clearly was going to be 2nd place in the individual race. 

A back-and-forth struggle developed with Del Mar and Enterprise in the team race as San Benito was too deep for either team to crack. San Benito won with a low score, 32, as Enterprise was 2nd with 63 to Del Mar's 82.

In the Girls race, Kristin Funck of Piedmont Hills (San Jose) opened up a huge lead in the first mile and steadily pulled away in a near record performance with a time of 18:47 over cross-town rival Elena Lopez of Santa
Teresa (19:15).   Enterprise dominated the team race with a very low 20 points as only two points separated Piedmont Hills and last year's Champion, Saratoga.

20 teams participated in the 32nd annual event.
