Virginia State Meet Preview

The following is compiled from Coaches Rankings Over-read Committee 1999 -- Mike Madison, Brentsville High School; Frank Taylor, Radford High School; Scott Burns, John Handley High School; Ed Boyd, Jamestown High School; Matt Ryan, Thomas Jefferson; Gene Walker, Marion High School; Ken Ross, Galax High School; Troy Smith, Cave Spring High School.

AAA
Girls
The team race leaders are Thomas Jefferson, Robinson, Chantilly and Lake 
Braddock.
The individual race will feature Erin Swain Lake Braddock, Meghan Hoffman 
West Potomac, Christina Burleson Mount Vernon and Kerin Lanyi Thomas 
Jefferson. Erin Swain is the overwhelming favorite.

AAA
Boys
The team race leaders are Robinson, Lake Braddock and Jefferson.
The individual race will feature Alan Webb South Lakes, David Silver 
Jefferson, Bill Meador Cave Spring, Matt Maline Oakton and Austin Smith 
Midlothian. Barring a mishap Alan Webb will repeat as champion. The race 
will be for second with any or the aforementioned comming out of the pack.

AA
Girls
The team race leaders are Louisa County, Jefferson Forest and Lafayette.
The individual race will feature Jill Wilson Louisa, Charissa George Louisa, 
Teresa Davis Louisa and Amanda Musick Lebanon. The goal for the AA leaders 
will be to try to break up the pack from Louisa, if that occurs anyone could 
win the race.

AA
Boys
The team race leaders are Western Albemarle, Lafayette, Sherando and 
Jamestown.
The individual race should be close and fast. Excluding Alan Webb the 
following AA boys are the best in the state: Bobby Lockhart Hadley, Bryce 
Ruiz Jamestown, Jorge Ruiz Harrisonburg, Todd Lucia Western Albemarle and 
Alan Carr York. It may come down to the kick at the finish to determine the 
champion.

A
Girls
The team race leaders are Brentsville, New Kent, Stonewall Jackson and 
George Mason.
The individual race will feature Colleen Winzeler George Mason, Eileen Wicker 
New Kent and Liz Hager Riverbends. The early favorite is Colleen Winzeler 
who has been competing successfully all season at the AAA level.

A
Boys
The team race leaders are Brentsville, Clark County, Page County and New 
Kent.
The individual race will feature Dustin Sweeney Clark County, Tim Tomblin 
Clark County, Derek Phillips John S. Battle and William James New Kent. With 
defending champion Dave Aleman of Brentsville questionable there is no clear 
favorite.
