Park’s Sportsman Cross Country Meet of Champions

Saturday, Utah’s best runners gathered at the Cottonwood Complex for the

Park’s Sportsman Meet of Champions.  The beautiful weather and great

field made for an outstanding meet.  Bingham’s Laura Zeigle showed why

she will be a national contender in December as she led from start to

finish and destroyed the 2.95 mile course record by 24 seconds, as she

crossed the line in 17:12.  Twin sister Jackie was second at 17:51, with

East’s Phebe Ko third in 17:57.  In team scoring, 4A showed their depth

and won the state bragging rights as they nipped 5A, 27-30.

The Boys’ race field was somewhat weakened with the absence of Provo’s

Josh Rohatinksy, out with an illness.  Orem’s Golden Harper, the 5A

Champion, broke away from the pack late in the race and broke his own

course record, as he finished first in 15:00.  Mountain View’s Brett

Andrus was second and Roy’s Seth Pilkington third both timed in 15:06.

Mountain View placed four of their runners in the top eight to pace the

5A to a 21-42 victory over 4A.
