In the boys' race, Josh Jordan of Penncrest, defended his League crown by
pulling away from Springfield's Pat Shea and teammate Michael Espenoza in the
final 400. Penncrest repeated as league champion. The girls' race also saw a
repeat individual champion in Penncrest's Chrissy Boyd, who took the lead at the
halfway point. Penncrest, who had been dethroned as league champion in 1998 by
Strath Haven, regained the title by placing four in the top 21, and the fifth at
30th place.
