26th New York Federation Meet
11/20/99 at Bowdoin Park, Wappingers Falls NY
3.1 miles, hilly in middle mile - cloudy, mid-60s, light winds
Stars of the meet:
Colonie girls, Aaron Emery and Beaver River, Laurel Burdick
With Jen Kramer leading the way, Colonie (left) decisively
broke the tie with Saratoga (they had each won twice in four previous meetings
this year) for supremacy in New York girls cross country, ending Saratoga's
10-year reign as New York Federation champion. Colonie got all five
scorers in against two for Saratoga for a breakout 48-93 victory (their earlier wins
over Saratoga were by 2 points in the Manhattan Invitational and 1 point in the
New York sectional). Kramer, who was injured most of the season, was
a big difference as she improved from 5th on the team in the 1-point sectional
victory to first on the team today. After Saratoga's lead runner Danielle
Coon finished 4th overall, Kramer led the Colonie charge to 6-11-14-15-35
positions overall.
Aaron Emery, (center) slowed earlier this year by an
appendectomy,
burst out with a decisive victory in 16:07 (11th best all time at Bowdoin Park)
to lead tiny Beaver River (pop. 700) to a big team title over the best New York
has to offer. Emery finished 7 seconds ahead of Suffern's Justin
Romaniuk, and Beaver River (1-12-15-18-63 before displacement) had 61 points to
runner-up St. Anthony's 147. Detailed Boys Results
