This was all Bonanza in team competition. Led by Cory Jeffers, who went
wire-to-wire, the Bengals boys team put on a clinic. (The Bengals #8 runner,
Troy Jeffers, won the JV race in 19:04.) Boulder City (led by Jack Hardy,
running in the mid 17’s) ran their boys in the small-school race and won
easily against token competition. Bonanza’s girls team won with depth over a
field that was minus most of the top teams in southern Nevada. Boulder City
chose to run most of their girls in the JV race or they would have likely won
the varsity race. Angela Peterson of the Meadows was an easy winner in the
girls varsity race and her winning time was within a minute of the course
record (19:23) held by Green Valley’s Abby Miller. Unfortunately, these two
girls run in different divisions and will not run head-to-head until
Footlocker. But make no mistake about it: Angela Peterson is for real. She is
undefeated and has not yet been tested this year.
