In a battle of nationally ranked boys teams, Lincoln Southeast beats higher ranked Shawnee Mission, Northwest, the 1998 Kansas State Champion. Southeast had a 28 second spread between #1 and #5 runners.

Footlocker National Finalist, Brian Turner, of Millard North coasts to a 6 second victory over Brad Barker, of Omaha Westside and Freshman Megan Rasmussen ran away from the pack to lead Millard South to victory over 1998 Nebraska State Champion Omaha Marian and 1998 Runner-up, Lincoln Southeast
