The Idaho State Cross Country meet was held at Hell's Gate State Park in Lewiston, Id. The 5k course was very hilly with a long hill of 700m starting at the 2.5k mark and leveling off at the 2mile mark.   The weather was almost perfect. There was a slight wind for the A3 and A2 races, but the conditions were great for the A1races. The temperature was in the low 60's with mostly sunny skies.

The State meet was last held in Lewiston in 1993 and this year's times were much faster. The 1993 Girls' winner would have finished 6th. The Boys' winner, Billy Herman 1999 NCAA steeplechase finalist, would have also finished 6th in the boys race.

The A1Girls race had some surprises. Boise's Robin Witcher (2 time champ) led the race until 700m, when she looked left and was passed by Hillcrest's Janae Johnson on the right. Johnson finished
in 19:25 and Witcher faded hard being passed at the end and finishing 3rd. Ninth Grader Kim Reading of Blackfoot finished in 2nd, 30seconds behind Johnson and just ahead of Witcher.

Meridian's Girls used a 6,11,12,13,and 37th finish to win the Girls A1 title, followed by defending champ Boise, Capital, Centennial, and Jerome.

A1 Boys had a pack of 3 until the 2mile mark. Borah's Terry Allen led most of the way until fading and giving way to Centennial's Tyler Williams. Highland's Morgan Anderson ran a very tactical race and
passed Tyler in the last 200m, with Tyler barely being able to finish. Allen was 3rd.

Centennial was able to win the Boys A1 followed by defending champ Meridian, Capital, Highland, and Vallivue.

A2 Girls: Defending champs Bishop Kelly easily won over Snake River(41-98). Best race here, with Bear Lake's Donilyn Golding edging Gooding's Carin Patterson by .3 of a second.

A2Boys: Snake River repaid Bishop Kelly for winning the Girls' title by beating BK 56-69 for the Boys' title. Ryan Jenks of Snake River claimed the title over Bonners Ferry's Forest Braden by 6seconds.

A3 Girls: Malad beat Firth(38-45) to take the title. Teton's Danielle Allen easily won to take the individual title.

A3 Boys: Firth place all 7 runners in the top 20 to take the team title. Derek Peterson and Blake Taylor led Firth with a 1-2 finish both at 17:10.

Next year's State Meet will be at Idaho Falls(as of now anyway).
