1st Iolani Invitational

Aloha!  The first annual Iolani Cross Country Invitational took place on

Saturday September 25th at the beautiful Kualoa Ranch on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii.  

Five schools joined our League for this  special meet including HPA (Big Island), 

Crescent Valley (Oregon), and Lanier (Texas).  We hope more mainland schools will 

come over to the islands next year and participate in this wonderful event.



 It was a gorgeous day - high 80's, a bit humid with some nice trade winds - and

 perfect for some great competition.  The course was well liked by the coaches and the 

athletes alike.  It consisted of mostly dirt trails and grass and included some very 

tough hills.  There were some very close team battles and a very tight

individual race in the Boy's Varsity race with Crescent Valley's Devin Barlow

pulling away the last quarter mile.   

The most amazing performance was turned in by Punahou's Victoria Chang in the

Girls Open 3 mile race.  Her 18:05 is an outstanding time on this extremely challenging 

course (one coach felt it was on par with Mt. SAC in terms of difficulty).   

Iolani School would like to thank Crescent valley and Lanier for traveling

so far to participate in out meet.  Their joy and enthusiasm made out

Invitational even more special.
