Detailed Results

WAILUKU (November 12, 1999) - Mililani's Robby Philipp and Punahou's Victoria Chang won the boys and girls won individual championships today at the Honolulu Marathon State Cross Country Championships at the Maui Lani Golf Course on Maui.

Philipp, who finished second in last year's championship, outdistanced Brad Beruan of Aiea for the title. Philipp, a senior, finished the 3-mile course in 16:35, six seconds ahead of Beruan.

Chang, who finished second to four-time state champion Eri Macdonald the last two years, won easily this time with a time of 12:27. Ironically Chang finished ahead of another Macdonald, Pippa (Eri's sister) who finished second.

Chang's win caps off an incredible 1999 season where she won two gold and a silver at the State Track and Field Championships in May. In that meet she set HHSAA records for the 1,500 and 3,000 meter races.

In the team competition, Kamehameha boys and Punahou girls won the team titles.

The Girls individual race was all Victoria Chang from the start. An

indication of the difficulty of the course is that Victoria Chang has

been running around 11:00 on most

2 mile courses. The race for the title was never in doubt as Punahou

put in 1-2-3.

The race for second was alot tighter with Kamehameha winning their 3rd

straight runner-up trophy.
