After the fury of Tropical Storm Floyd, Connecticut saw its own brand of fury as the girls powerhouse teams of Fitch HS-Groton and E.O. Smith HS-Storrs garnered the top prizes in the 21st edition of the Windham Invitational. Newcomer Chelsea Lenge of Conard HS-West Hartford upset Fitch's Jessica Schenk in the battle for overall honors on the 2.4 mile course.

The boys meet featured several strong performances with Hall HS-West Hartford, Manchester HS, and Amity Regional-Woodbridge winning their races.  Top honors for the boys went to Xavier's Tyler Cardinal who edged out
Norwich Free Academy's Chris Andrew on the 3.1 mile course.

Meet director Bob Haddad and his experienced crew put together another superb effort after some horrific weather prior to the race.

BOYS

Around 1300 runners competed at Windham High School Saturday kicking off the 1999-2000 season of Cross Country in Connecticut. Tyler Cardinal of Xavier out kicked Chris Andrew of NFA to win the Varsity 3 Boys race, but that wasn't enough to overcome the depth of Amity (3,13,16,19,20), 71 to 78. Southington was third with 101 points.
