The meet featured 44 schools-- 40 from AZ, 2 Col, 1 Tex, 1 Nev. MVP's Abbie Miller of Henderson, NEv 10:51 3200 and James Smith Phx Camelback with HH Mark.

The first big Arizona event was held on Saturday, March 27. As is usual with early season events, none of the times were eye-popping but there were several interesting results.

1. The winning boys teams were: Mesa Mountain View (78), Phoenix Desert
Vista (63), and Phoenix Shadow Mountain (54).

2. The winning girls teams were: Phoenix Desert Vista (86), Mesa Mountain
View (56), and Phoenix Mountain Pointe (53).

3. James Smith (Phoenix Camelback) was a triple event winner: Long Jump
(22'-11 1/2"), 100 HH (14.28), and 300 IH (38.72)

4. Ryan Garner (Mesa Mountain View) and Brian Yazzie (Mesa Westwood) ran a
"dead heat" in the 1600 in 4:18.08.

5. Seneca Holmes (Tolleson Westview) won the Girls 100 HH in 14.50.

The most newspaper ink was devoted to explaining that Sara Gorton is in
Ireland with a US Junior Team this week.
