Duriel Laird (Louisiana) - "I felt tight. I had a good start, then tightened
up as the race went along. I had a problem with one quad. I was the Louisiana
State 3A 100 meter champ from Bossier. My goal today was to qualify and move
on through the rounds. I am also entered in the 200."
Heat 8 - 1. BRYAN SEARS (USA) 10.57 (wind -0.7) (Sears handled 10.45 Nigerian
star Ajibade Taiwo surprisingly easy, showing great power and acceleration
through the event).
Bryan Sears (Georgia) (who ran in sunglasses and threw a fist high in the air
after finishing in celebration) - "I felt great! I feel very good about
running what I believe was the fastest time of all of the heats. I am in great
shape right now. My goal in this meet is to bring back gold to the U.S. and
have us dominate this sport once again. I go to Liberty County High School in
Georgia, and was State 200 meter champ and finished second in the 100 Meters."
(Sears looked very sharp and races in an explosive style similar to many of our
nation's top sprinters of any level).

1500 Meters (First Round) -
3000 Meters (Final)
110m HH (39" hurdles)

LaShauntea Moore (Ohio) - "I felt okay. My start was 'iffy.' I felt very good
at the end and think I won the heat. My goal here was to run my best for the
season. I have not been happy with my running overall this spring. My goal
here is a medal. This is the first time I have been in a meet with three
rounds in one day."

problems and finished 8th in her heat to not qualify on)
Raasin McIntosh (Texas) - "I just made too many mistakes. This is a first time
experience for me. I loved the experience, and the competition was much
stronger than what I face in the U.S. I wish I had another shot, but I will
just have to come back and do a good job in the 4x100 meter relay, where I will
be running."

allowed to move around very much in the competition area. I was a bit
disappointed in my throwing today."
Group B - 1. Hang Mei (China) 14.87 (48-09.5)...3. LISA BEACHLER (USA) 13.57
(44-06.25 Qualifier 5th overall)
Lisa Beachler (Nebraska) - "I felt okay, but I had a few form problems. I felt
kind of "small" out there compared to the other girls. I think the best throw
was like 14.4 meters, and I think I threw 13.59m. I had a 14 meter throw in
warm-ups and would have liked to duplicate that in the competition. My goal
here is to not make a fool of myself. I need to straighten out some of my form
problems"
Javein (Qual) -
Leslie Erickson (Washington) - "I do not think I did real good. My goal for
this meet was to get back into the 170's. I had a seasonal best of 170'06 for
North Thurston HS in Lacey, Washington, and won the State Meet. I have had an
arm problem off and on over the last few months. I will be in the twelfth
grade next year."
