Another top group would battle here, with some fine Collegians mixing it up with preps, including Lashinda Demus (Wilson HS, Long Beach, Ca), who had raced 40.44 in the California State meet for the 300 meter distance to lead the preps. Randi Smith (Washington St Univ) took Heat 1 at 61.04, with Thema Napier (Univ Maryland) 61.29 for a prelim #2 victory. Preps took over the final two heats, with Lashinda Demus looking frightening on the way to a 58.78 that ranked among the top twenty prep runs ever at this distance. Alyssa Aiken (Chantilly HS, Va) shocked with her 58.06 heat 4 win that made her equaL to the #7 U.S. prep ever!! 

The Finals belonged to Demus, as the talented Long Beach Wilson junior, who has run on a 46.04 short relay team, raced under 14.00 for the 100m Hurdles, and is a prominent member of the National Record prep 4x400 relay team. Lashinda was in the high 61's as an eighth grader for this distance three years ago, with a return to the distance here resulting in a 57.95 win that replaced Aiken (above) as the #7 prep in U.S. History. There looks to be a bit more in the tank for the Pan Am Junior Meet for the young lady who turns out to be the daughter of former local Southern California female great, Yolanda Rich.
